Use the Hierarchy Import file to manage the hierarchy structure. With this file, you can add, update, and delete hierarchy nodes.
The Hierarchy Import File Layout table outlines the requirements for entering your data into a Hierarchy Import template. To ensure a successful import, review the considerations outlined below before beginning the import. In addition, be sure to familiarize yourself with the guidelines found in General Import File Tips.
In Hierarchy Import files, the following additional characters are not allowed: [%,‘, “, #, ..=, +, @, (, ), !, *, $ ] in addition to the other restricted characters listed in General Import File Tips.
Create the hierarchy nodes from the top level down, establishing the highest nodes first (for example, Node 1, then Node 2, and so on).
Delete hierarchy nodes from the bottom level up. You cannot delete a hierarchy node that has dependents.
When you delete hierarchy nodes that have objects associated with them (such as accounts, employees, and MCCs), you must first reassign all the objects to a different hierarchy before you delete the node; otherwise, all the objects will be moved to the “Deleted” hierarchy node.
If the duplicate hierarchy ID function is enabled, the hierarchy ID you enter must contain the full path, starting from the root and separating each of the nodes with a backslash (\). For example, the hierarchy of Root > Chicago > JPMC > Finance would be entered as Root\Chicago\JPMC\Finance
